Dexter on CBS: Episode Four (aka: Um...)

I'm way, way, way behind. I don't have any real reason even though I can kinda sorta blame my scanner on the delay because without the scanner there is no Bean art and without Bean art... well, posting is pointless.

I haven't watched an episode since the second one because the editing irks me too much. I hear they took out Maria's storyline involving her saying Mr. Legless was the Ice Truck Killer but that's second hand info. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong.

I also heard they put the opening credits on since I bitched at them for removing them. You're welcome, fans. Apparently they listen to me. I'm all powerful.

Dexter on CBS: Episode Three (aka. OMFG a new NIN record!!)

Okay. I didn't watch it. I didn't watch because half an hour before it came on there was an announcement that there was a new Nine Inch Nails album available to download and that is far more important to me than watching a badly edited rerun of Dexter. So don't look at me for any insight. Doakes probably said "Mother Lover" and Deb probably said "Frikken" a lot. Who knows? Who cares? There's a new NIN album!

The featured artist is unknown this week as I found this on Postsecret. If you don't know what Postsecret is, I recommend it highly. It's an amazingly beautiful project.

Dexter on CBS: Episode Two (aka. wtf happened to the credits?)

Um... Dear CBS and Showtime,

Why the fuck did you cut the opening credits? What in the hell is wrong with you? I didn't mention it last week because episode one doesn't have opening credits. I find Dexter's morning ritual to be EXTREMELY important to the show and I find you as being a stupid Mother LOVER for cutting it.

Jerk offs.

Another series I'm enabling is called "Dexter: By Bean" which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. My niece will be drawing a scene each week that is based off of a still image from the show. She already has a few ideas for upcoming episodes which are sure to be hilarious.

Feb. 17th: CBS Season One Premier

I’ll be honest. I’m not totally looking forward to this premier. It’s a season I already know like the back of my hand. I adore the season in it’s true format (meaning: not edited) and I fear that editing will make the show seem cuter than it is.

I am, however, very happy that everyone will be able to fall in love with the show. I like that it’s available to the masses. I hope that they will be able to appreciate it like the rest of us have and go on to buy the unedited DVDs. I look forward to new fans digging into the show. I just wish I was able to fully join them. But I can’t. Because I saw the show and I know what happens and I can’t offer theories.

So what I’ve decided to do was this:

Each week I’ll be featuring an artist who has done Dexter art. Whether it be handmade or photoshopped does not matter as long as it is Dexter related. If I cannot find a suitable artist, I will make something myself. But really, I’d rather feature other people and show the world how talented the fans are.

If you would like to submit some art, please email it to me at fanart@frozenbarbie.com. I have no rules for submission, only that it be something Dexter related. If you are looking for inspiration you can snatch up screen shots from Season One and Season Two. There are thousands and thousands of images to choose from, all free for the picking.

I will also be doing a compare/contrast/makefunof the editing thing if it’s needed. I’m sure new fans will be visiting and I think they should know what the show is really like.

Overall, I want this CBS experience to be something fun. Talking spoilers are still not allowed for the virgins out there, though some fan art might have some hints. We’ll see.

I look forward to the next few weeks with all of you and I especially look forward to seeing amazing art.

Season Finale: The British Invasion

The British Invasion

Here we go… and beware because nothing is masked. I simply don’t feel like it and I’m writing this assuming everyone has either seen the finale live or a week ago when it was leaked.

How many people attended the live chat and how many people were annoyed as shit by the other fans there? Who else was annoyed that no one from the cast was there live, talking about the show? Because they sure made it seem like that’s what would happen.

Overall I was fairly disappointed with this season. I predicted in, probably, the second episode that Doakes would die and it would NOT be Dexter that killed him. I said it over and over to anyone who would listen. I also said he was sure to find out that Dex was the BHB and would confront Dexter about it. The season was far too predictable, far too simple minded and it frustrated me constantly. Every episode I hoped and thought through tiny details, looking for underlying layers and hints to future episodes… but nope. It was all exactly as it looked. For that, I was disappointed.

Deb and Lundy made it worthwhile for me. Deb is just like me… brash and tough but still sweet, aching and loving. I cried during the finale when Lundy was packing and also when Deb decided not to go to the airport. I know exactly, 100%, what that is like. I do hope he will return next season. There was no absolute conclusion there and so, in my mind, until next season, I will imagine Deb and Lundy doing the beautifully painful long distance thing.

Maria will be a problem next season. That’s the only hiccup I can see for Dexter. She will continue to try and avenge Doakes’ memory. She will never believe he was the BHB and I think someone needs to be on Dexter’s ass otherwise where’s the fun?

I have no problem with the conclusion here. The rest of the season was so predictable and safe that it makes sense that the finale would be the same way. Cliffhangers are the way of the devil and so this suits everything just fine. It’s possible they were unsure of a season three during writing and filming and that could be why there’s such a tidy ending.

There was one bit I loved, loved, loved and that was when Dexter finally got his morning routine back in order. There was also the “does your dick dance?” line which was complete brilliance.

What would I have changed about the finale? Rita would have died instead of Doakes. I fucking hate her and Doakes looks like my (recently deceased) cat.

The series was fine, overall. I’m simply nit picky but there is no other show I’d rather spend my time watching and analyzing. If I didn’t love the show, I wouldn’t have this site and groups and make thousands of screen caps for people to use freely. Dexter is truly one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen (aside from Pee Wee’s Playhouse but we’re not going there). I look forward to next season, as I’m sure all of you do.

Dexter Season Finale - The British Invasion

Finally! I've been waiting to post about this episode all week! (The finale was leaked and I watched it as soon as I could. Patience isn't one of my virtues.)

So what did you guys think? Honestly, I thought it was good, but not great. Everything wrapped itself up just a little too tidily for my taste. Doakes got blown up by Lila (that bitch) and the cops found the body of that drug dealer in there with him. Dex was off the hook in the first 10 minutes! What the hell?!

And what was all that teasing us about Lila's shady past if they weren't going to elaborate on that a little? OK, so she's in the country illegally and using a false name. Why? I was hoping to find that out. Nope. I think finding out about Lila's evil past would have made her death that much better. But don't get me wrong, it was lovely to see her die; I just wanted a little ... more.

Also, I said before that I didn't want the season to end on a cliffhanger, but c'mon! There was nothing left to entice me into watching Season 3. At the end of Season 1 there was the new development of Doakes tailing Dexter, and of Rita finding Paul's shoe in the yard. They were just small things, but they were small things that kept me wondering.

I don't know. I still loved the show, and the season was really great, but I was just a little disappointed in the finale. I expected to be shocked, and I wasn't, really. I'm still looking forward to next season, though, and will be for the next 9 months.

Dexter star, Erik King (Sgt. Doakes) spent some time with BuddyTV.com yesterday for an exclusive interview. King shared his views on season 2 thus far, and what we can expect from the season finale. He spoke about being head butted by Michael C. Hall, the thought process in conveying Doakes’ emotions while stuck in the cage, and the possibility of episodes being edited to air on CBS. You talked about being in the cage, because for the last couple episodes you’ve been stuck in a cage. I imagine it’s a different experience for an actor, especially if you’re a physical kind of guy, being stuck in this tiny cage for so many of your scenes. How did that work out?

Well, what was most difficult for me was trying to rationalize and work through how Doakes would react to that. With his special-ops background and his law enforcement background, it was really important to me that Doakes’ focus was not to escape from the cage. That’s not his focus. I think he should have been more cool and calm than that. For some reason, in my mind I imagined that this was not the first time he had been locked up or captured in some way. So my goal was not to escape from the cage as much as it was to invite him into the cage, to sort of invite myself into Dexter. If I can save Dexter, especially after he kills this guy in front of me, if I can save him then ultimately I can save myself.

Definitely, and it was some good stuff. Now I’d like to talk more generally about Dexter. There’s been a lot of promotion from Showtime this year about how it’s been getting the highest ratings ever for the series’ on Showtime. I’m wondering how you respond to that. It’s always gotten a lot of critical acclaim, but now it seems to be finding a pretty big audience.

Well we’re really excited about it. As you say, the show is finding its audience as well. I think it’s word of mouth, people are saying this is a great show, and having the first season on DVD helped a lot as well. It allowed people who don’t have premium television to have the opportunity to pick it up and watch the show in succession. I’ve heard a lot of fans say they just sat through it and watched it for the weekend, and I’m thinking wow, that’s pretty good. Although you gotta be kind of screwed up to watch this show, all 12 episodes, in one weekend. I’m excited. I’m excited that the show is really catching on, and the audience has found the show and the show has found its audience.

Left Turn Ahead

I do not have any comments on this episode which may or may not make you happy. Reason being that I saw the final episode and so I feel I can't make a fair post. I will, however, say that I was SO right about one thing that I hadn't seen anyone else predict. Go me.

I'll be posting after the finale, of course, to wrap up the season. Till then, I have a billion screen shots to upload.
